UT Southwestern Medical Center ranks among the top academic medical centers in the world. Its mission is to improve health through innovative patient care, research and education. Founded in 1943, UT Southwestern has rapidly evolved into a premier research institution, pioneering breakthroughs in cardiovascular disease, cancer, neurosciences and women’s health. These discoveries led to international recognition for the faculty, including four Nobel prizes. In addition, the outstanding faculty and advanced facilities attract the very best medical students, residents and fellows.
Today, UT Southwestern has one of the largest academic physician practices in the Southwest and is a major referral center for patients with the most complex of diseases. More of “America’s Top Doctors” work at UT Southwestern than at any health-care institution in north Texas.
The comprehensive eye service at UT Southwestern Medical Center helps referring physicians care for their patients whose vision is threatened by eye disease, systemic disease, or injury. The Department of Ophthalmology is fully staffed and equipped to offer comprehensive, cost-effective patient care in all subspecialty areas of ophthalmology. Each faculty member has received fellowship training in one or more of the subspecialty areas of ophthalmology. A team approach is taken for complicated conditions that bridge subspecialty areas. Cutting-edge diagnostic instrumentation is available for specialized testing.
Ranked in the upper echelons of ophthalmic research in the United States, the Department’s superb faculty of clinicians and scientists, in a never-ending effort to preserve vision and prevent blindness, bring pioneering research from bench to bedside to improve virtually every medical and surgical area of ophthalmic care.
