First Achievements

- Founded the first Ophthalmic Assistants’ Association in North America in 1966.
- Founded and organized the first didactic course in North America for Ophthalmic Assistants at Centennial College in 1966.
- In 1966, co-authored with Dr. Slatt the first world textbook for Ophthalmic assistants titled “The Ophthalmic Assistant” published by the C. V. Mosby Company, St. Louis, Missouri. First textbook of its kind published in North America and the world. Now in 8th Edition (2006)
- Organized first Home Study Contact Lens Course in North America.
- Founded the first Resident and Technician course for contact lenses in 1970 for the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists, New Orleans, U.S.A.
- Co-authored with Dr. B. Slatt the first Terminology Book for Ophthalmology in 1982, published by the C. V. Mosby Company, St. Louis, Missouri. Now in 3rd Edition.
- First Canadian to be President of the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists, New Orlealns, Louisiana U.S.A. in 1984.
- First Canadian to be President of the Joint Commission on Allied Health, Minneapolis, Minnesota, U.S.A. 1986 and 1987.
- First Canadian to be Chairman of the House of Delegates of the American Association of Ophthalmology 1971 and 1972. This organization is now amalgamated as the Board of Councillors of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
- First Canadian as a Councillor of the Board of Councillors of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
- Established first approved eye outpatient surgical centre in Ontario in 1983 at the Park Plaza Hotel.
- Organized a major change in the constitution of the Canadian Ophthalmological Society as President of the C.O.S. in 1986 &-1987.
- First Chairman of the Advisory Committee of Centennial College and Director of Professional Continual Education.
- Only ophthalmologist in Canada who has written over 30 books
- Written 250 articles for medical journals.
- First and only private Surgicentre in Ontario funded & licensed by Government and approved by College of Physicians & Surgeons of Ontario.
- Co-authored with Mel Freeman the 1st Residents Contact Lens Manual 1996. For university eye residency programs
- Established charitable eye foundation at Bochner Eye Institute, Toronto, 1987
